The 42nd World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), also known as L.A.con II, was held August 30–September 3, 1984, at the Anaheim Hilton and the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, USA. The chairmen were Craig Miller and Milt Stevens. The Guests of Honor were Gordon R. Dickson (pro) and Dick Eney (fan). Robert Bloch was the Toastmaster for the Hugo Ceremony, and Jerry Pournelle was the Master of Ceremonies for the Other Awards Ceremony. Total attendance was 8,365, a record and the largest to date. == Awards == The Hugo Awards, named after Hugo Gernsback, are presented every year for the best science fiction or fantasy works and achievements of the previous year. Results are based on the ballots submitted by members of the World Science Fiction Society. Other awards, including the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, are also presented each year at Worldcon.〔
